Dekton and painted steel
352 × 322 cm (footprint)
A Coruña, Spain
Our installation for Festival Atmosféras began with three Dekton slabs. These are cut and rearranged to maximise material use, creating intersecting planes that act as structure, surface and transitional space for the public. The project explores folding as a structural device and a gesture that can conceal and reveal: although Dekton cannot be folded, its arrangement exposes the usually hidden backs of the slabs and their metal supports, revealing the rawness of its construction.
Resisting the ‘beigification’ of design, the palette inspired by Coruña’s maritime world highlights the exposed steel. Lightweight, rigid, transportable and reversibly assembled, the installation minimises intervention and waste. Its bar-height surfaces invite people to lean and gather, activating different public uses.
The installation stood outside San Nicolás Church in A Coruña, as part of Festival Atmosféras, organised and curated by Nuria Prieto.
